Today’s Lokwerk shopping center boasts a rich history. The building once served as a production hall where railway carriages belonging to the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Factory were repaired. A nostalgic railway carriage inside the center still serves as a reminder of this. In recent years, the Lokwerk has been increasingly developed into a retail shopping center, with the building also being complemented by attractive residential spaces, which have been occupied since 2023.
The shopping center itself offers a wide range of shopping options as well as complementary services such as the PureGym fitness center. 2024 was one of the most successful years in the center’s 15-year history, and the fact that it exceeded the magic million mark is proof of this.
As a decorative and functional element, the Swiss lighting manufacturer Monolicht and the lighting design firm LightON have developed a “chandelier” that illuminates the public area of the shopping center in multiple units. By using sound-absorbing felt materials and combining the LTwo MAG with direct and indirect lighting, a completely new, individual luminaire was created.
